The BKP method is translated as "percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty". It is also called vertebroplasty
It is indicated in cases of subtle movement within the vertebral body after fracture, or in cases of pseudarthrosis where the vertebral body is clearly open in the supine position but closed in the sitting position, like the mouth of an alligator.
Most cases provide immediate pain relief, but there are cases in which complete pain relief may take several days.
Since the previously soft bone is suddenly stiffened, it takes time for the surrounding bone to adjust to the new environment. The surgery takes about 30 minutes. Local anesthesia is used. You can go home on the same day of surgery.
