program details
[Medical condition] Hepatocellular carcinoma, Metastatic liver cancer [Special features] Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization (TACE) is a method in which anti-cancer drugs and embolus material (gelatin sponge) is injected into hepatic artery which provides nutrition to the tumor and the tumor falls into ischemic necrosis by embolizing feeding arteries. Even a large tumor or multiple tumors is treatable. Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a method in which electrode needle is inserted to the center of the tumor through the skin while observing the tumor with ultrasound and by applying an electric current called radio wave, heats occurs around the needle leading to the necrosis of the tumor. Being different from surgical operation, the wound is just one needle width, and the necessity of rest after the treatment or the influence to the general condition is less. Re-treatment can be performed in several days. Improvement of treatment effect is expected by performing both therapies together.
