MRI/US Fusion-Guided Prostate Biopsy 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
By fusing MRI with real-time ultrasound imaging, highly accurate targeted biopsy can be achieved.
More accurate diagnosis helps avoid unnecessary biopsies and maintain the patient’s quality of life (QOL). Compared to conventional systematic biopsy, this method provides more accurate and reliable diagnosis. Targeted biopsy has been shown to have a significantly higher cancer detection rate than systematic biopsy. This procedure is performed by Dr. Nobuyo Morita.

Endoscopic Surgery for Brain Tumors 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
At our hospital, one of the key features of brain tumor surgery is the frequent use of endoscopic transnasal tumor removal for pituitary tumors.
Endoscopic Surgery for Brain Tumors: At our hospital, a key feature of brain tumor surgery is the frequent use of endoscopic transnasal tumor removal for pituitary tumors. For pituitary tumors, including non-functioning adenomas that present with visual disturbances, even large tumors can be safely removed. Functional adenomas caused by hormone overproduction can also be precisely excised without damaging surrounding tissues. In addition, deep-seated tumors such as craniopharyngiomas and tuberculum sellae meningiomas—located near critical structures—can also be removed using the same endoscopic transnasal approach. For intraventricular tumors, which are often difficult to remove using conventional microscopic surgery due to limited visualization, neuroendoscopy allows for a wider surgical field by utilizing the ventricular space, enabling more effective tumor removal. We also perform a large number of surgeries for intra-axial and extra-axial brain tumors. Procedures are performed by Professor Yasuhiko Hayashi or Associate Professor Toshihiro Ogihara.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
A treatment program for knee pain that does not improve with conservative therapy, aiming to restore function and relieve pain through joint replacement surgery, thereby improving walking ability and quality of life (QOL).
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for osteoarthritis is a standard treatment aimed at relieving pain and restoring walking function in patients whose symptoms do not sufficiently improve with conservative therapy. At our hospital, board-certified orthopedic specialists provide comprehensive care, from preoperative evaluation to surgery and postoperative rehabilitation. We utilize robot-assisted surgery, enabling highly precise implant placement based on each patient’s bone structure and soft tissue balance. This approach is expected to improve postoperative function and support faster recovery. We also place strong emphasis on perioperative management and infection prevention to ensure high standards of safety. In addition, patient education is prioritized to create an environment where patients can undergo treatment with confidence.

Total Hip Replacement Surgery 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
A treatment program for hip pain that does not improve with conservative therapy, aiming to relieve pain through joint replacement surgery and improve walking ability and quality of life (QOL).
Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a standard treatment aimed at relieving pain and restoring walking ability in patients with hip pain and functional impairment that do not improve with conservative therapy, such as in osteoarthritis of the hip. At our hospital, board-certified joint replacement specialists provide comprehensive care from preoperative evaluation to surgery and postoperative rehabilitation. We adopt surgical techniques that minimize damage to muscles and soft tissues, aiming to reduce postoperative pain and promote early recovery. We also place strong emphasis on perioperative management and infection prevention to ensure a high level of safety. In addition, patient education is prioritized to create an environment where patients can undergo treatment with confidence.

Peripheral Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
A minimally invasive treatment program for knee pain using ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve radiofrequency therapy, requiring no hospitalization and allowing short-term stay.
This program is a minimally invasive, short-stay treatment for knee osteoarthritis using ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve radiofrequency ablation (CRFA). By identifying the nerves supplying the knee joint and selectively blocking pain transmission, pain relief can be achieved without the need for hospitalization or general anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately 30–45 minutes, and patients can walk on the same day. It is suitable for patients who wish to avoid or delay total knee replacement surgery, as well as elderly patients with higher surgical risks. The procedure is performed by board-certified orthopedic specialists experienced in knee treatment and ultrasound-guided techniques.

Lens Reconstruction Surgery 【Kanazawa Medical University Hospital】
In 2019, a dedicated operating room (Eye Center) adjacent to the ophthalmology ward was opened, where more than 1,200 cataract surgeries annually are performed, including complex, pediatric, and complicated cataract cases.
For cataract diagnosis, we use advanced diagnostic equipment to objectively assess not only visual acuity but also the quality of vision, allowing us to select the most suitable intraocular lens for each patient. We offer a range of intraocular lenses, including spherical and aspherical monofocal lenses, toric lenses, and multifocal lenses. Experienced orthoptists support patients in selecting the best option—considering their lifestyle—including approaches such as monovision. We place particular emphasis on multifocal intraocular lens surgery and have one of the highest case volumes among university hospitals in Japan, achieving excellent clinical outcomes.
