Surgical treatment is provided for adults who were diagnosed with or treated for heart disease in childhood and who continue to experience limitations in work or daily life. Using advanced blood flow analysis, the surgical approach is carefully planned to achieve the most physiologically appropriate blood flow possible, even in patients with highly complex cardiac anatomy.

Program details
We provide surgical and reoperative treatment for adults with congenital heart disease who were diagnosed with heart disease or underwent surgery or other treatments during childhood. Adult congenital heart disease is a highly specialized field involving complex cardiac anatomy and function. As a relatively young area of medicine, treatment strategies have not yet been fully established, even in developed countries.

For this reason, diagnosis and treatment incorporate advanced medical research, including blood flow analysis, which visualizes blood flow within the heart and blood vessels as dynamic images and enables simulation of hemodynamics.

Dr. Keiichi Itatani, a cardiovascular surgeon specializing in adult congenital heart disease and a pioneer in blood flow analysis, provides care based on extensive clinical experience and precise theoretical analysis.

In Japan, several hundred patients who have undergone procedures performed by Dr. Itatani—including reintervention of the pulmonary valve, reoperation for single-ventricle physiology, and complex surgery involving the aorta—are now leading active lives in society.

This program aims to provide medical care that allows patients to visually understand and appreciate how blood flows through their own heart, what problems are present, and what treatment may help them achieve a healthier daily life and return to or continue working.

Treatment Schedule
CT, MRI, ultrasound, and cardiac catheterization examinations generally require approximately one week. If surgery is performed, hospitalization is expected to last approximately two weeks.
