In a general cataract surgery, the patient's vision is determined before the surgery, but the Light Adjustable Lens™ is the world's first intraocular lens that allows patients to pursue their desired vision after cataract surgery.
With this lens, the patient can determine the power of the lens to fit his or her desired vision and lifestyle while experiencing how the vision will look in actual daily life. After the wound has healed, the lens is adjusted after cataract surgery, and the power is changed with a special device called a light delivery device (LDD) that emits ultraviolet light for several minutes.
Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) and Light Delivery Device (LDD) have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

【Treatment Schedule】
Initial Visit: Consultation and comprehensive eye examination can be completed on the same day.
Lens Ordering: After the examination, your Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) will be ordered. The lens is typically available approximately one month after the examination.
Surgery: The procedure will be scheduled once the lens has arrived.
Postoperative Follow-up: Examinations are required the day after surgery, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery.

Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) Adjustment

Approximately one month after lens implantation, the lens power is customized using a special ultraviolet light treatment called the Light Delivery Device (LDD). This allows your vision to be fine-tuned based on your actual visual experience after surgery.

In addition to the routine postoperative follow-up visits, patients are required to return to the clinic 2–3 times for LDD light adjustment treatments.

Precautions / Contraindications

・After the surgery, you will need to wear special UV-cut glasses for approximately one month (until 24 hours after the last power-fixing irradiation). To prevent the lens power from being affected, you will need to avoid exposure to strong ultraviolet rays as much as possible.
・In addition to the usual postoperative checkups, you will need to visit the hospital for UV irradiation.
・Patients with UV sensitivity or taking medications that make them sensitive to light may not be able to undergo the procedure.
