One-day inguinal hernia laparoscopic surgery (Gi Surgical Clinic)
While the usual laparoscopic surgery (TAPP and TEP methods) involves drilling three holes in the abdomen, our clinic performs the procedure in one location, just in the umbilicus (SILS-TEP method).
According to the latest (2021) tabulation published by Japanese Society for Endoscopic Surgery, our hospital accounts for 16.3% of TEP procedures performed in Japan and 98.1% of procedures performed only in the umbilicus (SILS method).Inguinal hernia is said to affect one in three men. It is the most common gastrointestinal surgical disease (disease of internal organs requiring surgery). Therefore, surgery can be performed at any surgical center throughout Japan. On the other hand, because it is a common disease, there are very few specialists and few specialized medical institutions. In order to break through this situation, we established Japan's first group specializing in one-day laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery, and we boast the largest number of surgeries performed in Japan. We have performed 5,204 surgeries since the hospital opened (as of the end of July, 2023), with only one case of recurrence (0.019%). The average surgery takes about 50 minutes. The average stay in the recovery room is 2 hours. Hospital stay is about 3 hours. Patients are discharged from the hospital on their own and can lead a normal life from that day.
