Kyoto Gi Surgical Clinic (Inguinal Hernia Day Surgery)

Patients traveling to Japan can undergo same-day laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in the Shijo-Karasuma area of Kyoto.

We offer the SILS-TEP technique, a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure performed through a single incision at the navel, designed to reduce surgical trauma and support faster recovery.

Patients can typically return home on the same day, with an average stay of approximately 4 hours from admission to discharge.

GI Surgery Clinic Kyoto is a specialized day-surgery clinic for adult inguinal hernia repair located in the Shijo-Karasuma area of Kyoto.

For patients traveling to Japan for treatment, we provide a clear explanation of the consultation, preoperative evaluation, and surgery-day schedule to help facilitate travel planning during a short stay.

We perform the SILS-TEP (Single-Incision Laparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Repair) technique, which reinforces the abdominal wall from outside the peritoneum. This minimally invasive procedure is performed through a single incision at the navel without entering the abdominal cavity.

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After a postoperative recovery period at the clinic, the surgeon reviews the surgical outcome and the patient's condition. Patients who meet discharge criteria are expected to return home on the same day.

Since April 2015, we have performed 8,574 inguinal hernia procedures (as of April 30, 2026).

The clinic is conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from Shijo Station (Kyoto Municipal Subway) and Karasuma Station (Hankyu Railway), making it easy to incorporate treatment into a stay in Kyoto.

【Additional Information】
GI Surgery Clinic Kyoto specializes in same-day laparoscopic surgery for adult inguinal hernia repair. The average length of stay on the day of surgery is approximately 4 hours, and urinary catheterization is not routinely required.

Since April 2015, the Gi Medical Group has performed 8,574 inguinal hernia procedures (as of April 30, 2026).

Available Programs

  • One-day inguinal hernia laparoscopic surgery (Gi Surgical Clinic)

Even during a short stay in Kyoto, international patients can receive same-day laparoscopic treatment for inguinal hernia. Our streamlined treatment pathway is designed to help address concerns and provide peace of mind within a limited travel schedule.

Same-Day Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery Program for International Visitors to Kyoto This program is designed for international patients staying in Kyoto who wish to undergo treatment for an inguinal hernia during a short visit to Japan, without carrying the concern of an untreated hernia throughout their travels. An inguinal hernia does not typically resolve on its own, and definitive treatment requires surgery. Our goal is to provide treatment without hospitalization, enabling patients to walk out of the clinic and return to their accommodation on the day of surgery. We perform the SILS-TEP (Single-Incision Laparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Repair) technique through a single incision at the navel. Because the procedure is performed outside the peritoneal cavity, without entering the abdominal cavity, it is designed to minimize surgical trauma and support postoperative recovery. The average operative time is approximately 50 minutes, and the average stay in the clinic on the day of surgery is approximately 4 hours. One of the key advantages of this program is that inguinal hernia treatment can be incorporated into a stay in Japan with minimal disruption to sightseeing or travel plans in Kyoto. The Gi Medical Group has specialized in same-day surgical treatment of inguinal hernia since 2015. 【Treatment Schedule】 This program is intended for international patients staying in Japan who wish to undergo same-day laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery during a short-term visit. Although the operation itself is performed on a day-surgery basis, the program includes consultation, preoperative assessment, surgical counseling, surgery, and postoperative follow-up to ensure patient safety. As a general guideline, the treatment program requires approximately one week, and approximately 10 days if preoperative testing is included in the schedule. During the initial consultation, a medical interview, physical examination, and ultrasound examination are performed to determine whether same-day surgery is appropriate. If surgery is indicated, preoperative tests such as blood tests, chest X-ray, and electrocardiogram (ECG) will be arranged. After reviewing the test results, the treatment plan is confirmed, and detailed explanations regarding the surgical procedure and postoperative precautions are provided. The surgery date is then scheduled upon the patient's informed consent. The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Following surgery, patients recover in the recovery room. Patients who meet all 12 discharge criteria may return to their accommodation on the same day.
