Provision of Minimally Invasive Surgery using Laparoscopy and Robotic Systems

Surgical Treatment of Complex Abdominal Hernias and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

We have extensive experience in the treatment of various types of abdominal hernias. For morbid obesity, which is a major cause of inguinal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, often associated with hiatal hernia), we reported the first case in Japan of a robot-assisted surgery using the da Vinci system (Aichi Medical University). In addition to English, we are also able to provide medical support in Chinese through collaboration with the Department of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at Kansai Medical University Hospital. Target Condition ①: Abdominal Hernia (Inguinal, Femoral, Obturator, Umbilical, Incisional, Recurrent Hernia) The incidence of abdominal hernias has been increasing with the aging population and the growing number of patients with a history of abdominal surgery. Appropriate surgical management is required even for recurrent and complex cases. Our department provides minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for all types of abdominal hernias, including inguinal, femoral, obturator, umbilical, and incisional hernias. We place strong emphasis on postoperative pain reduction and early return to daily and social activities, ensuring high-quality surgical care. We are also in the process of introducing robot-assisted surgery, which will further enhance our ability to manage a wider variety of cases in the future. Target Condition ②: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Most cases of GERD are caused by hiatal hernia, and severe cases often require surgical intervention. Our department offers precise, minimally invasive surgery, primarily laparoscopic fundoplication, for the treatment of GERD. We actively manage recurrent cases and complex cases considered difficult to treat at other hospitals.

Advancement of high-precision high-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy

Not only curative treatment but also palliative care

We have been advancing the precision of high-dose-rate (HDR) interstitial brachytherapy. We use the third-generation remote afterloading system, MicroSelectron-HDR. In addition to curative treatment, we are also engaged in palliative therapy. Brachytherapy for Cancer Target diseases: Gynecological cancers, prostate cancer, head and neck cancers, breast cancer, bone and soft tissue tumors, rectal and anal cancer, and others. Curative, life-prolonging, and palliative effects can be expected by treating the tumor lesion. The lesion must be in a site where a therapeutic applicator can be inserted and placed. Necessary procedures such as anesthesia and analgesia/sedation must be feasible. The lesion site should be able to maintain a certain degree of stability during treatment. The patient must have received a cancer diagnosis and personally consent to brachytherapy. Note: Eligibility for brachytherapy requires discussion not only with the attending physician but also with collaborating specialists for each disease. As a result, there may be cases where treatment is not indicated.
