- Program Summary
- Moyamoya disease is a rare, idiopathic disease prevalent in East Asia, characterized by the narrowing of cerebral vessels from childhood to adulthood, leading to cerebral infarction, or brain hemorrhage due to excessive pressure on the remaining small cerebral vessels.
Since its establishment, our center has been performing bypass surgeries for Moyamoya disease, treating approximately 60 cases in fiscal year 2023.
In addition to treatment, we conduct extensive research within the center to understand the pathology of Moyamoya disease and to develop new therapeutic methods. We also lead multi-center collaborative research as part of a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare research group.
